Ohama Sumo Stadium in Ohama, Sakai City, is the birthplace of Japan’s student sumo wrestling. This popular sports facility just south of Osaka City plays host to annual student and amateur sumo championships.
The events are held at different times than the national sumo tournaments, so they are a great opportunity to experience a sumo match if your visit to Japan doesn’t coincide with a national tournament.
