Partners Information: Mt Takao is located only about one hour by train from Shinjuku in central Tokyo. The mountain attracts 2.6 million climbers annually and is easy to climb at only 599m in height. It’s a well-known spot to see the spectacular autumn colours.
There are seven climbing and hiking routes on Mt Takao, but the recommended route is route #1, which makes use of a cable-car half-way up the mountain, finishing the hike on foot through Yakuoin Temple (established in 744). This hike only takes 1 hour or so and is ideal for beginners.
“Ukai Toriyama” is a special restaurant located at the foot of Mt Takao with tranquil surroundings.
Eating chicken grilled over charcoals in front of you and gazing out at an elegant Japanese garden is highly recommended!
