Tsubamesanjo in Niigata Prefecture is blessed with an abundance of beautiful nature.
Mt. Kugami (Kugamiyama), located a 30-min drive from the Tsubamesanjo Shinkansen station, is worth visiting to gaze at the peaceful landscape. Go on a hike and breathe in the refreshing mountain air! At 313 metres tall, Mt. Kugami is not as tall as the surrounding mountains, but you can still enjoy a leisurely hike. Advanced-level trekking trails are also available.
The Japanese beech grove on Mt. Kugami has been designated as a natural treasure by Niigata Prefecture. Here, you can find seasonal flowers and plants during every season such as summer-camellia and hydrangea on your way to the top.

Over 200 years ago, a famous Zen monk Ryokan spent 20 years of his life at the Kugami Kokujo-ji Temple.
In early summer, you may be able to see a reflection of Mt. Kugami in ride paddies. After strolling, take a relaxing soak in an onsen (hot-spring) or dip your feet into a footbath.
